First off, I LOVE this coffee maker. Makes great cold brew and very easy to clean. The SS filter and cap are great quality. Unfortunately, the carafe is EXTREMELY FRAGILE. I have now now broken two of them and won’t be buying a third. Both broke in the same spot at the base. The first time, I had just made a full pot and barely (and I really mean barely) tapped it against the shelf in the cupboard as I was putting it away (I brew at room temp). Coffee went everywhere and I had to clean every dish in there. The second time it was empty and broke by just setting it next to the sink. I was so shocked because I have been even more gentle with the second one. For $40 I expect this to be A LOT more durable. Several other reviewers have had the exact same issue…so buyer beware. Honestly, this carafe should be made out of Pyrex. You can buy a 1L Erlenmeyer flask on Amazon for less than $13 which is almost the same size and shape as this carafe. I have one for brewing beer and that thing is indestructible. The point is…for $40 I think Ovalware could provide a Pyrex version and still make good margins on their product. That would make this the ultimate cold brew maker and I would immediately buy another one!

This is a beautiful cold brew coffee maker, and I got this during Prime Day for a decent price. Before this, I was making cold brew coffee with a mason jar and cheese cloth sieve. My main criticism of this brewer (as compared w the mason jar) is that this makes cold brew coffee, instead of cold brew coffee concentrate, i.e. the coffee is not concentrated enough. What this means is that I am getting a lot less coffee for the amount of coffee beans used. NYT’s Wirecutter reviewed other cold brewers that use the same method of brewing (i.e. coffee grounds in tube of mesh) and concluded that the results are too watery. I have to agree with that conclusion. I’m going back to my mason jar, but it is a very messy method, so I may spring for the OXO cold brew coffee brewer at some point in the future.
A secondary point is that the lid, as other reviewers have noted, is not airtight. I left town for a few days and came back to distinctly less coffee than when I left. It’s either evaporation or the cats were stealing the coffee from the fridge.

I have never made a amazon review before but this thing is amazing so I wanted to share my thoughts. For the past 2 years I have been using a chemex/aeropress to take care of my caffeine needs. However I recently broke my chemex was looking at various “slow brew” coffee makers (clever, v60, press pot) when I decided I needed to switch to cold brew coffee. Drinking one cup of cold brew concentrate vs. three cups of hot coffee would save me bathroom trips. Also, I live in Arizona and hot coffee and summer don’t go together.
I selected this cold brew coffee maker for a few reasons. First, its aesthetically pleasing to look at. Second, one batch makes enough to last throughout the day and into next morning. So I never have to run out of cold brew ( my preferred brew time is 22 hours, I actually can the remainder in mason jars and hand it out to friends). Third, the filter is made of metal and is reusable. Some competitors brewers use paper filters which you constantly have to restock, which can be a hassle.
Ive noticed some people complaining about the coffee grinds mixing in with the water, so I wanted to address this. The RJ3 has a METAL filter, it does not use PAPER filters, so its not going to filter out the super tiny sediments that you get when you grind beans coarsely. This is the same as a french press/ press pot. However, the tiny sediments collect at the bottom of the beaker and stay there. When you pour into your coffee cup, the sediments will stay in the beaker.

DO NOT! Feed on the negative reviews!
You need to be consciousness with the fact that you’re handling glass… as you would with any other “fine China” you would handle… I read all these reviews saying that it broke in the fridge “in the middle of the night” (BS if you ask me) & leaked everywhere … clearly you set it down too hard or used it with boiling water, which if you’re making cold brew, you’re not suppose to use. USE ROOM TEMP WATER FOR COLD BREW! Always. Anyway, This is an amazing product & I have had no trouble with it. It’s esthetically pleasing & serves its purpose. The seal around the lid makes for fresh tasting cold brew for roughly two weeks (if it last you that long) I brought it into my office one day & by the end of the day my coffee was gone.
It’s just simply an amazing product & would definitely gift this to another friend or family member who is equally as interested in coffee as I am.

I was so excited about this. I didn’t last one full use. I poured a cup and went to put it back in the fridge. The base lightly bumped the refrigerator shelf and blew a hole in it, leaking half the contents over the fridge and floor before I could get it to the sink. I Know how to handle glass but this was SO WEAK. Now looking at other reviews I see the 1.5 seems notorious for this.

Two major problems:
1) It is not airtight — The pour spout makes it impossible to agitate the coffee during brewing without it spilling out from the pour spout.
2) It is super fragile — I set it down on the counter after pouring my first serving and the glass broke sending glass and coffee all over my kitchen

This is my third Cold Brew Coffee maker and it will be my last. I love this product! Because the filter goes to the top and is capped the grounds do not escape into the brew. I do not use as much grinds as they call for as I like the brew a little less strong. The rubber seal moves easily from the filter to be put on the cap so it is completely sealed so now odors mix in and I do not worry about spillage. This product was a Christmas gift for my husband so I spent more than I normally would. However it is worth every penny and I would buy this as a gift again.

Overall I give it an A++. I was scared to order it because of all the complaints about the glass being too fragile, but the glassware is not as thin as people make it out to be! I accidentally bumped it on a coffee mug twice and it did not break as some posts claim. I also compared it to a beaker I got from Ikea and they were comparable. It also came with a rubber holder that I will probably leave on. Fits the bottom rack on my fridge and it is so easy to clean. I am also going to look into more oval ware products. I’m so glad I came across this product. The maker looks so good and fancy. I would definitely buy again or gift it to someone if they like cold brew. cant wait to drink my coffee once my brew is ready! 😅

Easy to use and delicious coffee. Slightly more detailed instructions about how concentrated to make it would be helpful but we figured it out with trial and error. We put about 14 table spoons in and it came out just how we wanted! It is sleek and well designed, so much nicer looking than the plastic ones and works great!

I have had this since January and have just gotten a chance to write a review now. I use mine for tea and it is fantastic.
A couple things I have to say based on previous reviews.
This is made of thin glass; so you have to treat it gently. You can’t be rough with it and I saw a couple things about steam and shattering from hot water. You are supposed to use room temperature water. NOT hot or boiling water.
This is how I use mine.
I use 6 teabags; yes teabags. The directions say to remove the tea from the teabags. I see no need for this.
I remove the string and tag from the teabag before putting in the filter.
I pour room temperature water slowly into the filter. Then I take a long handled tea spoon I have, I stick the thin handle end in the filter to swish around the water and tea bags. I wait a minute and the I lift filter up and down to drain the water through the filter a few times. I do this to make sure the tea is saturated with the water since I have the tea in teabags.
I put in the refrigerator for 10 hours (sometimes longer) and lift and drain the water through the filter a few times. I dump the teabags in the trash. Sometimes the teabags burst but I think the amount if tea that gets out and sticks to the filter is a lot less than if I used loose tea.
I love this tea maker.
And when I make tea for my hubby. I transfer to a thicker covered pitcher I have because he is not as gentle on things as I am. Then I make some more tea for me, so I am the one handling the fragile glass.
I make at least a couple pitchers of tea each week.
